Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Taylor will be 4:00 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church, Liberty. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 until 3:45 PM at the church. Private burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
Mr. William Marion Taylor, 100, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died at Baptist Easley Hospital on Sunday, February 15, 2015, after a brief illness.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Margaret Bennett Taylor; two daughters, Ann T. Bailey (Hugh) of Liberty, Jane T. Sargent (Phil) of Easley; three sons, Jim Taylor of Charlotte, NC, David (Sheila) Taylor of Newnan, GA, and Allen Taylor of Liberty; nine grandchildren, Brent Bailey (Danielle), Kristen B. Lopez (Joel), Leah Taylor, Courtney and Caroline Sargent, Hailey Sisk (Brian), A. J., Spencer, and Ashlyn Taylor; four great- grandchildren, Madelyn Vance Bailey, Bailey and Eli Lopez, and Peyton Sisk; and one sister, Frances T. Garrett. He was predeceased by an infant son; a grandson, Vance Marion Bailey; four sisters, Doris T. Henderson, Elizabeth T. Smarr, Martha T. Stackhouse, and Mary T. Wilson, and one brother, Harry Ray Taylor.
Born in Union County on August 23, 1914, he was a son of the late Albert Jefferson and Bessie Humphries Taylor. An entrepreneur at the age of sixteen, he opened a general store to help support his family during the Great Depression. He served his country in the US Army 1942-1946. He owned and operated the Western Auto in Liberty, SC, for over 20 years before his retirement in 1976.
A member of First Baptist Church, Liberty for over 60 years, he served on various committees and was a member of the T. E. L. Sunday School class. He was a member of the American Legion Post #67, where he previously served as president. He enjoyed serving others as a driver for over 20 years for Pickens County Meals on Wheels, where he previously served on the Board of Directors.
