Funeral services to honor the life of Rev. Taylor will be 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. All Wesleyan ministers are invited to serve as honorary escort.
Reverend William Herbert Taylor, Jr., 72, of 805 East A Avenue, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at his home. Born in Artie, West Virginia he was a son of the late William Herbert Taylor and Minnie Harper Taylor Payne.
Rev. Taylor graduated from Houghton Wesleyan College in Buffalo, New York, and served his country in the United States Navy & Coast Guard.
He was a Wesleyan minister for over 40 years having served at the following churches: Lower Brule Wesleyan Church, Cattaraugus Wesleyan Church, Cuzzart Wesleyan Church, Mt. Hope Wesleyan Church, Mt. Olivet Wesleyan Church, Belton Wesleyan Church, and Pleasant View Wesleyan Church. For 10 years he served as a missionary for Wesleyan Indian Missions, and while there taught Bible at Brainard Indian College. He also worked at Clemson University in the custodial dept.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Rakes Taylor of the home; a daughter, Bethany Hooper and her husband Rickey of Six Mile; two sons, Jeff Taylor and his wife Mary of Powdersville, and Darren K. Taylor of the home; a sister, Willa Jean Messer of Mossy, WV; a brother, Ezra Taylor of Huntington, WV; five grandchildren, Megan Mantooth, Benjamin Taylor, Zach, Braden, and Kinley Hooper; a great grandson, Parker Mantooth.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Kinley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pleasant View Wesleyan Church, 13701 Highway 20, Belton, SC 29627-8678.
