Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Wright-Boyle will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Andrews, SC. Burial will follow at Andrews Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Vera Mae Rogers Wright-Boyle, 91, of 105 Crimson Glory Way, wife of William Belton “Bill” Boyle died Monday, January 28, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. Born in Andrews she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Artimus and Alice Cleveland Sawyer Rogers.
Vera Mae attended Andrews schools and was a 1942 graduate of Winthrop College. She was a dedicated public school at Andrews High School and at Williamsburg High School for 30 years. She was a member of local, state, and National Teachers Associations, a member of Delta, Kappa, Gamma Teachers Society; a life long member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Andrews joining in 1934, and Assistant Sunday School Teacher of the Adult Daisy Watson Class, a member of Esther Elizabeth Circle, Forever Young, and United Methodist Women. She was a volunteer worker for various charitable organizations, member and President of the Rosemary Garden Club, Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion, and life long member of the Disc Club.
In 2004 when the soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 178th F.A. returned from Iraq Vera Mae was presented the prestigious Molly Pitcher Award for writing letters of support to each soldier of the 178th. She was also and avid UNC Tarheel basketball fan.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Ann W. Pressley (Don) of Covington, LA, and Robin W. Lee of Travelers Rest; a step son, Billy Boyle of Sumter; two sisters, Dot Wollitz Beard of Jacksonville, FL, and Ettre Vee Moskow of Denmark; three grandchildren, Alice Nolan (Stewart) of Mandeville, LA, Kerry Harrelson of Granby, CO, and Kim Osborne of Columbia; great grandchildren, Henry, Avery, Connor, Will, Jackson, and Pressley.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry F. “Hank” Wright, three sisters, Ethel Newton, Frances Blake, and Agnes Edwards, and two brothers, Pergeous and Alton Rogers.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to Trinity United Methodist Church, 205 S. Rosemary Ave., Andrews SC 29510, or Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Avenue, Columbia SC 29205.
