“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord” Psalm 122:1. Richard entered the eternal house of our Lord and Savior on Thursday December 27, 2012 surrounded by the comforting staff of McCall Hospice in Simpsonville and dear friend, Debra Youngblood.
Richard was born September 23, 1956 to Erving & Alberta Frizzell at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. After graduating Wildwood High School in Sumter FL, Richard honorably served our country in the Army from March 1975 until December 1976. After working various jobs in Florida and Georgia, Richard settled in Anderson South Carolina in 1990 working as a weaver trainer for Springs Industry.
In 1998, Richard found his “sweet spot” serving the church with a joyful heart as a maintenance tech. Richard was a faithful employee at New Covenant Church in Anderson for nine years. In November 2007, Christ Church Episcopal was blessed to have Richard join the staff in joyful service. Christ Church parish and staff became Richard’s brothers and sisters in Christ. Avery Currie, Debra and Mark Youngblood were honored to be special friends of this humble man with a heart of service.
In August 2009, Richard found his little “piece of heaven” in a one bedroom cottage on Bates Crossing in Travelers Rest and shortly after celebrated the arrival of his best buddy “Fred” (black cocker mix). Richard and Fred spent most evenings sitting on the porch watching the sunset over the fields. Fred accompanied Richard as they celebrated hiking, camping adventures, and fishing trips; they were inseparable. Richard was able to experience the trip of a lifetime this past summer as he ventured to Arizona: fishing the Colorado River and touring Antelope Canyons of Paige, viewing God’s majesty in the Grand Cannon, Red Rocks and Chapel of Holy Cross of Sedona Arizona.
After the diagnosis of stage four cancer in August this year, Richard was served by the wonderful staff of Cancer Center of Carolina, Cancer Society of Greenville County, as well as McCall Hospice in Simpsonville.
A service to celebrate the joyful life ministry of Richard will be held at Christ Church Episcopal in the Markley Chapel at 2 pm on Wednesday, January 2 2012.
