Funeral services to honor the life of Rev. Shook will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Roanoke Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 until 1:45 PM at the church.
Reverend Jackson Sherman “Jack” Shook, 86, of Easley, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Waynesville, NC he was a son of the late Thomas Elwood and Odell Rogers Shook.
He spent his entire life preaching the gospel and serving as a pastor. He pastored the following churches, Browns Chapel Baptist Church, Weaverville, NC (1968-1971), Pleasant View Welcome Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, SC (1971-1983), and later retired from Roanoke Baptist Church, Liberty SC (1983-2018).
Rev. Shook was a United States Army veteran. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to hunt and fish.
His life’s verse is II Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” His life exemplified this verse to his family and all who knew him. All of his children and grandchildren considered him their “HERO”.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Sheila Shook of the home; one son, Jim Shook (Kristy) of Simpsonville; 2 daughters, Lydia Griffith (Rev. Jeff) of Somerset, KY, and Susie Nix (Randell) of Liberty; a daughter in law, Charlene Fanning of Greenwood; 13 grandchildren, Ashley Finney (Josh), Rev. Jonathan Shook (Rebecca), Justin Shook (Amber), Brittney Gamble (Rev. Chad), Rev. Nathan Griffith (Ashley), Chad Shook (Hailey), Katelyn Dotson (Rev. Scott), Lauren Lockaby (Colton), Rev. Zachary Nix (Abby), Jared Griffith (Savannah), Madison Lockaby (Andrew), Brandon Griffith (Kayla), and Jeremy Griffith (Chelsey); also surviving are 25 great grandchildren; a sister, Hiawatha McKinnish of Canton, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Reverend Dean Shook, and four brothers, Morris, T.E., Howard, and Harold Shook.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Roanoke Baptist Church, Steeple Fund, C/O Randell Nix, 346 Whitmire Hill Road, Liberty SC 29657.
