I knew Jack from 3856 KHz on ham radio. My radio was tuned to that frequency so I could hear Jack and others each day share lots of stories about life. We talked off and on for over Jack was kind to everyone and ended his broadcast day the same. I just found out Jack passed as I had moved from Columbia

I met Jack on the HAM Radio when I was a new operator. He was my first contact when I obtained my "General" License. He and some of his longtime friends worked a morning net and welcomed me right in. I wasn't an everyday participant, but always enjoyed speaking with Jack and his circle of friends. You could pick Jack's voice out of a crowd very easily, and I'm sure he could have been a professional radio announcer or disk jockey! I had the opportunity to meet Jack, as I was in search of a HAM Radio Amplifier, and Jack had a spare for sale. I drove to Six Mile SC to meet Jack and purchase his 'amp'. We hit it off immediately, as I had guessed by his personality over the radio. We drove to some hill top, and Jack showed me some additional radio equipment he managed, then off to lunch. We met up with a few of his friends in a nearby town and had a great time. We finally made it back to Jack's house and we talked some more, finally getting around to the amplifier. The day was getting late, and I knew I had to make my way back to Blairsville, before dark, so I paid Jack, and we loaded it in my truck. On the way home, hit dawned on me, Jack and I were so busy talking and enjoying each other's company, that we failed to test the amp. I thought to myself, I can trust this guy, he wouldn't sell me something that did not work. Well, it didn't work, and I let Jack know and he drove all the way to my house in Blairsville to pay me back, and get his amp. My point in this story is really to illustrate something his friends and family already know. Jack was genuine, honest, and a gentleman. I continued to get on the air with Jack off and on, since that time. Today, I dialed in my HAM Radio to the frequency Jack and his friends enjoyed their morning chat, only to hear silence. I tried several days ago, but today didn't feel right. I found Jack's Obit and know now Jack is a "Silent Key" and is residing with our Lord and Savior in Heaven. Prayers of Peace & Comfort to Jack's Friends and Family. God Bless.. W. Jerry Cannon - Blairsville, Georgia

Was surprised to hear of Jack's homegoing. I knew Jack from way back in the 1980's. He was WB4TWX then, from the Charlotte area, and ran the Carolina Two Meter Sideband net. I would check in from Kingsport, TN. I reconnected with Jack on the phone a couple of yers ago, but never got to see him. We had a lot in common. Praying for grace to the family in the days to come. Jack will surely be missed.

I am not a HAM radio operator. However, Jack’s unmistakable warm and welcoming voice greets me every morning when my husband, Ken Reid (KK4ZPS), fires up his radio and they start their day together along with the rest of their HAM community. Ken connected with Jack when he first got his license over 10 years ago. Since that time Jack has been like a mentor to Ken, advising him on equipment and many of the nuances of becoming an amateur HAM operator. And he’s been something of a fatherly figure to me. I learn something daily just by listening to his stories, advice and humor second hand. I’m so glad we got to visit Jack last year. He told me some amazing stories. The one that sticks out most is the time he was able to assist people in Puerto Rico during the devastating hurricane to contact families and friends-- relaying messages day and night using various HAM networks. HAM operators observe this passage of a fellow HAM with a sign of respect referred to as becoming “the silent key”. But I think God is welcoming Jack as he proudly introduces himself as “W4TWX” and that they will have some lively discussions indeed!

My very good radio friend Jack was the first contact I made on the 75 meter amateur radio band many years ago. I have enjoyed an UN-countable number of chats with him almost every day on the radio over those many years. I consider him to be one of my best friends and he is now sorely missed. Thank you Jack for all of the many contacts over all of those years. Your good humor and wit always made my day a little brighter. I am sure that you are very happy to be in the presence of Our God and Our Lord Jesus who I know you loved very much. Thank you for the time you spent with all of us over so many years on the radio. I think we were all very much blessed by your presence. Good friends like you are very hard to come by. Respectfully, Butch
