It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Margaret Wikle Martin, who left this world peacefully on September 12, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on August 29, 1945, in the charming town of Sylva, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late James Hicks and Mary Etta Wikle. Margaret spent her years nurturing a legacy of love and joy that will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Margaret was not just a homemaker; she was the heart of the family. As a devoted mother to her daughters, Angie Dinkel and Beth Anthony (Ryan), and a beloved sister to Ruth Metcalf and Bobby Wikle, she always put her family first. Known as the best “Mamaw” ever to her five grandchildren, Jessica Murray (Aaron), Josh Roach, Justin Roach (Kelsey), Kayla O’Shields (Michael) and Hunter Anthony; and nine great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Caleb, Landon, Ryland, Khloe, Talon, Grayson, Kynnidy and Waylon. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and endless love. She had a special way of making every birthday memorable with her delicious cakes and indulging her grandchildren with homemade candy every Christmas.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mary Ellen Martin; her husband for over 20 years, Bill White; three sisters, Doris Lillard, Annie Robinson and MaryAnn Carter; and two brothers, Paul and Dean Wikle.
Margaret had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved to dance, especially with Bill. Any chance to let loose would bring her joy. Traveling to the mountains with Bill brought her peace and happiness, and she cherished her moments sipping a good cup of coffee while sharing stories and laughter with loved ones.
We invite everyone who knew and loved Margaret to join us for a celebration of her life. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel, where we will honor her vibrant spirit. Prior to the service, family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at the mortuary.
In keeping with Margaret’s joyful spirit, we encourage all to share their favorite stories and memories, celebrating a life well-lived and a heart that loved deeply. She will be missed in ways words cannot express but will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
