It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wilma Porter Hamlett, who left this world peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on November 22, 1937, in Greenville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Willie A. and Mary Berryhill Porter.
She touched the lives of many with her warm spirit and unwavering love.
Wilma dedicated many years of her life to working as a shipping clerk at Walmart, where her kind smile and cheerful demeanor brightened the days of her colleagues and customers alike. Upon her retirement, she continued to embrace life with the same passion she brought to her career.
A vibrant member of the Amazing Grace Fellowship, Wilma found immense joy in playing the piano and organ, sharing her love for gospel music with everyone around her. Her melodic voice and heartfelt playing were a testament to her steadfast faith and spirit, inspiring those fortunate enough to hear her sing.
Wilma leaves behind her loving husband of 71 years, Joe D. Hamlett, her sons, Tony Hamlett (Cindy) and Rick Hamlett. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren, Ashley Clemones (Justin), Courtney Mowry (Tyler), and Andrea Bearden (Bradley); her precious great grandchildren, Mason, Alaya, Jayda, Eva, Bailey, Taylor, and Caroline.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Corby, Barbara Reeves, and Judy Chambers, and a brother Harold Porter.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hamlett will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, June 5, 2026 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 until 1:30 PM at the mortuary.
Though we bid farewell to Wilma here on Earth, her spirit will live on not only in heaven but in our hearts and through the melodies she loved so dearly. Let us remember the joy she brought into our lives and the beautiful music that will forever echo in our memories.
