Shelby Barnwell
Norris, SC
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shelby Barnwell, a beloved mother, nana, and friend, who left this world on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Born on October 27, 1940, in Norris, SC, she was the widow of James D. “Barney” Barnwell and a daughter of the late Henry Mage and Pearl Palmer Chambers.
She faced her long and difficult battle with sickness with unimaginable courage and strength.
Shelby was a devoted mother to her daughters, and a proud grandmother to her grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her love and warmth touched all those around her; she had a unique ability to make others feel valued and cared for.
Her playful spirit and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Shelby’s light may have dimmed, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories created with her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Sandy Nix (Dewayne) and Teressa Black (Randy); four grandchildren, Travis Nix, Brad Nix (Kim), Courtney Sykes (Allie), and Dana Nix; also surviving are eight great grandchildren, Victoria, Blake, Emarie, James, Karstyn, Bowen, Mary Ellis, and Baylor.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sydney Jan Young, a sister, Martha “Bootsey” James, and three brothers, Earl, Bobby, and W.C. “Dub” Chambers.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel, where family and friends are warmly invited to celebrate Shelby’s life and the beautiful impact she had on all of us. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at the mortuary. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Westview Cemetery in Liberty.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to Agape Hospice, 130 Thurmon Lane, Suite 211, Clemson SC 29631.
Though she may no longer be with us, Shelby’s love will forever echo in our hearts.
