It is with both sadness and joy that we announce the passing of our beloved Jean Paige Chastain Watson, who left us peacefully on September 24, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101. Born on July 27, 1925, in Clemson, SC, formerly known as Calhoun, she was the widow of Hoyt Jackson “Jack” Watson and was a daughter of the late Edward Earle and Estelle Vernon Chastain. Jean touched the lives of many through her positivity, generosity, and unwavering faith.
Jean was a devoted homemaker, known for her talent in the kitchen and her love for cooking and baking. Her warm-hearted nature drew people in, and whether she was whipping up a delicious meal or baking a sweet treat, she always shared the fruits of her labor with family, friends, and her community.
Her love for children shone brightly during her time working as a Home Economics teacher and through her active involvement at Liberty First Baptist Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. She cherished the opportunity to inspire and nurture young minds. Jean’s spirited dedication to her church and the community exemplified her giving heart, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jean is survived beloved by sister, June Finley (Quillen); and several nieces and nephews whom she cherished. Together, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and kindness.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brother, George V. Chastain.
In honor of Jean’s incredible journey, we invite family and friends to join us for a time of visitation to be held at Liberty Mortuary Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM for those who wish to come and share memories and say their goodbyes. A private graveside service will be held at Old Stone Church Cemetery in Clemson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty First Baptist at 400 Edgemont Avenue Liberty, SC 29657, or Pickens County Meals on Wheels at 349 Edgemont Avenue Liberty, SC 29657.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Piedmont Post-Acute for the loving care that was given to Jean over the last few years.
