It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Ida Whitlock Nix, who left us peacefully on September 9, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on November 22, 1937, in Liberty, South Carolina, Ida spent her life dedicated to her work, her faith, and her family. She was the widow of Ralph David Nix and a daughter of the late William and Mary Frances Summey Whitlock.
Ida devoted over three decades to Libco Mills in Liberty, where she served as the accounting supervisor. Her colleagues admired her not just for her professionalism but for her warm spirit and generosity. Upon her retirement, she carried with her not just experience but the fond memories of the many lives she touched in the textile industry.
A lifelong member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, Ida’s greatest joy lay in teaching the Word of God. For an impressive 68 years, she faithfully taught Sunday School to 1st through 3rd graders, inspiring countless young hearts with her kindness and wisdom. Her love for her family and her unwavering faith defined her essence, and those fortunate enough to know her will always remember her sweet spirit.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and those left to cherish her memory are numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Alta Murrell, Wanda Norton, and Frances Hamlin, along with her only brother, Jim Whitlock.
Memorial services to honor her life will be held 12:00 PM Monday, September 14, 2026 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:30 until 11:30 AM at the mortuary. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.
As we honor Ida’s legacy, let us remember the love she shared and the light she brought into our lives. Please join us in celebrating a remarkable woman who will be dearly missed but will continue to inspire through the memories we hold dear.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to Flat Rock Baptist Church, 115 Slab Bridge Road, Liberty SC 29657.
