Central, SC
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carolyn McCombs “Carol” Dyer, beloved wife, mother, Gram, sister, aunt, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on September 8, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born on July 9, 1946, in Greenville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late William Eugene and Helen Anthony McCombs.
Carol was a warm and devoted person, known for her love of animals and her passion for nurturing them. She found joy in caring for pets, often babysitting them in her home, and treasured her time spent in the yard, where she could supervise her husband, Joe, as he tended to their shared outdoor haven. Her spirit was closely intertwined with nature, and she approached life with an abundance of love and compassion.
An industrious bookkeeper, she dedicated many years to her profession, having worked at Clemson University and in various bookkeeping roles throughout her life. Her dedication and meticulous nature contributed to the success of every organization she was a part of, earning her the respect and affection of her colleagues and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Joseph “Joe” Dyer; her cherished daughter, Cindy Derrick (Mark); her dear sister, Dorothy Smith (Randy); seven grandchildren, Jordan and Ashley Derrick, Savanna and Hannah Dyer, Casey Dyer, Jr, Fagan Gilliam, Lyric Dyer; one great grandchild, Lucas; three stepsons, Jamie Dyer (Sherrie), Casey Dyer (Peggy), and Jason Dyer (Novene); a stepdaughter, Kendra Dyer. Also surviving are a niece, Alicia Clinger (Glenn), and a nephew, Danny Farr (Lynn).
Each of them will carry forward her memory, where her kindness and unwavering spirit will continue to shine brightly.
A graveside memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Liberty Memorial Gardens. No formal visitation will be held.
In our grief, we remember Carol for the joy she brought into our lives and the love she so freely shared. May her legacy of compassion continue to inspire all of us.
