Six Mile, SC
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Ray Hendricks, who left this world on July 11, 2025, just shy of his 91st birthday. Born on July 24, 1934, in Six Mile, South Carolina, he was a son of the late James B. and Bertha Skelton Hendricks.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He spent his life in the charming town of Six Mile, SC, where he established deep roots and cherished connections.
Ray was known for his unwavering commitment to family and community. For 35 years, he owned and operated Hendricks Brothers Service Station alongside his brother David, providing not just automotive services but also friendly smiles and warm conversations to all who visited. A proud United States Army veteran, he carried the values of service and dedication throughout his life.
As a lifetime member of Kings Grove Baptist Church, where he held the honor of being the oldest member, he found great joy and purpose in his faith. His love for reading kept him mentally sharp, and he often shared newfound knowledge with those around him. An avid gardener, he delighted in nurturing plants, and his green thumb brought life and beauty to his surroundings. In his later years, he discovered a passion for kayaking, often finding peace on the water.
He was a proud graduate of Six Mile High School, where he showcased his athletic spirit as a member of the football team.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, Julia Hendricks; his cherished daughter, Kim Wilson and her husband Mark; his loving granddaughter, Chelsea Rae Wilson and husband Owen; also surviving are his brothers, David, Tom, and Bud Hendricks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Hendricks and Mary Ann Hendricks, and two brothers, Wallace and Lloyd Hendricks.
