Walter Bowen

Walter Bowen, 74, of Central SC passed away at Cottingham Hospice House on July 4th.

He was the loving husband of Sylvia Foster Smith of the home. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Walter Charlie, Sr. and Jewel Dawson Bowen.

Walter retired after more than 30 years from International Paper Company where he worked in the lab and quality control. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, shrimping, and camping. He was always known as a caring, giving man that was always up for a good joke.

He was a faithful member of Keowee Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Sylva Foster Smith of Central; a sister Madge Strickland of Laurens; his children Tina Bowen of Texas, Jamie Bowen (Melissa) also of Texas, Sharlee Sandmann (Richard) of California and Charlie Bowen of Louisiana; 12 grandchildren Zane, Amber, Mia, Raleigh, Kylie, Thomas, Juliea, Elijah, Kade, Martha, John, and Cynthia; also surviving is one great granddaughter, Brook.

The family will host a memorial service to honor Mr. Bowen’s life, 3:00 PM Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Keowee Baptist Church, 544 Keowee Baptist Church Road, Six Mile SC 29682. The family will have a visitation following the service at the church social hall.
