Carroll Gravley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Walter Carroll Gravley, who left us on February 24, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born on March 11, 1936, in Liberty, SC, he was the widower of Louise R. Gravley and a son of the late Walter Carey Gravley and the Lillie Gravley Bryant.
He lived a life filled with service and dedication. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Technical Sergeant after two decades of committed service. During his time in the military, he served during the Vietnam War.
His hard work didn’t stop there; he later joined Duke Energy as a Nuclear Maintenance Engineer, where he continued to make a difference in the energy production industry until his retirement.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Cyndi Ellis (Ray), Michael Gravley, Jimmy Laney, Richard Laney, Bobby Laney, and Cathy Laney who carry on his legacy of resilience and kindness. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shelby Jean Gravley, a daughter, Rhonda Moore, a brother, Mac Gravley, and four sisters, Louise Harrison, Martha Pace, Avanelle Gaunce, and Faye Sanders.
Carroll was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in fishing, where he enjoyed many peaceful days by the water.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, February 27, 2025, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.
Though he has left this world, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, you will be dearly missed.
