Roger Holder
Six Mile, SC
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger Lee Holder, who left us peacefully on November 26, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on February 5, 1951, in Seneca, SC, he was a son of the late William A. “Bill”, Sr. and Ruby Sorrells Holder. Roger lived a life full of passion, love, and dedication to his family and the natural world around him.
Roger was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during the Vietnam War. His time in service instilled in him a profound sense of duty and commitment, not only to his country but also to his family and friends.
In his quieter moments, Roger found joy in hunting and gardening, embracing the beauty of nature and the thrill of the outdoors. His love for beautiful creatures extended from the garden to the skies, where he marveled at the wildlife that graced the world around him. Family was always at the center of Roger’s life, and he took immense pride in being a father and grandfather.
He is survived by his daughter, Christy Monkus of Easley; two sons, Sam Holder (Laura) of Six Mile, and Brian Holder of Six Mile; and his sister, Sandy Gillespie (Roy) of Liberty. His grandchildren, Branden and Colby Monkus, and Haylee and Coralee Holder.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy, Jimmy, Jerry, and Danny Holder.
Funeral services to honor Roger’s life will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Kings Grove Baptist Church. Burial with Military honors will follow in the churchyard. No formal visitation is planned but his remains will lie in state prior to the service from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the church.
Though Roger is no longer with us in body, his spirit will continue to touch the lives of all who knew him. We will carry his memory in our hearts, remembering his laughter, kindness, and the lessons he imparted along the way.
