Brett Bates
Norris, SC
It is with heavy hearts but fond memories that we announce the passing of Robert Brett Bates, born on October 24, 1966, in Easley, South Carolina, he was the husband of Barbara Ann Crowe Bates and a son of Catherine Alexander Bates and the late Robert F. “Bobby” Bates. He left us unexpectedly on August 28, 2025. Brett, as he was affectionately known, was truly one of a kind-an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan with a knack for making everyone laugh. His quick wit and playful teasing will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Brett dedicated his life to his family, his friends, and his work as a custodian at Powdersville Middle School, where he formed lasting bonds with faculty and students alike. He loved to share good times on the golf course with his family and cherished every moment spent with his beloved dog, Split.
A true family man, Brett adored his wife, Barbara, and was immensely proud of his sons, Justin and his wife Debbie, and Travis and his wife Becca. He was especially proud of his new grandson Miles Austin Bates. In addition to his mother, he also leaves behind his brother, Trent (Allison) who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
In honor of Brett’s vibrant spirit, family and friends are invited to join together for a funeral service in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM. A visitation will take place Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, also at Liberty Mortuary. Following the funeral, Brett will be laid to rest at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
Brett was a man of faith and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church for the last 23 years. He had a love for reading and an impressive ability to quote scripture. Let us come together to celebrate the life of a devoted family member, a loyal friend, and a genuine soul who made the world a brighter place for many. In his memory, we invite all who knew him to share stories, laughter, and the warmth he so generously spread throughout his life. Here’s to Brett-a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Rest in peace!
