Richard Albert Reed, passed away on April 19, 2024, in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
Born on July 22, 1932, in Richmond, Virginia, he was the widower of Janie Jewel Reed and a son of the late Tom and Ethel Reed.
He was known for his dedication and passion for aviation. Richard proudly served in the United States Air Force, and the Civil Air Patrol. He retired from his aviation career as the FBO at Pickens County Airport.
Those who knew him remember his love for Clemson football, the Atlanta Braves, and the Dallas Cowboys, as well as his skills in cooking, particularly his famous hot chili and “ponies.”
Richard was an active member of his church, where he served as a deacon and Royal Ambassador Leader, dedicating much of his time to the ministry.
Outside of his work, Richard was a devoted family man, survived by his loving daughter Cindy Fowler (Roy) of Huger; two sons Ricky Reed (Tina) of Murrells Inlet, and Tommy Reed (Holly) of Pawleys Island; a sister Betty Lou Jellie of Chester, VA. He was also a proud grandfather to Nicole Reed (Jessica Kauffman), Melissa Reed (Daniel), Brandon Fowler (Allyson), Ashley Paskanik (Adam), Thomas Reed (Veronica), Kayla Wirth (Drew), and Tommy Schubert (Leah). Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Thomas Reed, Niles Paskanik, Dagmar Schubert, and Riley Wirth.
Funeral services to honor Richard’s life will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2024 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. He will be laid to rest by his wife in a private ceremony. No formal visitation is planned.
Richard will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his legacy of service, passion, and love will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace.
