Oscar Leroy McClain Jr. left this world on March 25, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on September 1, 1948, in Anderson, South Carolina, he was a beloved son, father, brother, and grandfather. Oscar resided in Liberty, South Carolina, where he spent many cherished years surrounded by family and friends.  He was a son of the late Oscar L., Sr. and Mildred McGuire McClain.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, he was awarded a Purple Heart, and later earned the rank of Specialist 5 (SP5) before being discharged in 1970. He carried his love for his country with him throughout his life.

Family meant everything to Oscar. He is survived by his three daughters, Trudy Ellis (Russell), Misty Jamadar (Russell), and Bridget Gilreath (Luke); a son, Jessie Clark; his cherished grandchildren, Brittany Leslie (Cody), Heather Craine (Barry), Savannah Maness, Jacquelin Brady, Gabriella Brady, and Jesse Maness; also surviving are six great grandchildren, Ryder, Micah, Justice, Blaze, Cherish, and Leila    who always brought a smile to his face. He shared a special bond with his brother, Terry McClain, and his sisters, Brenda Hamlin and Judy Atkins, keeping the family close at heart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and James McClain, and a sister, Mary Williams.

Oscar had a zest for life that was evident in his love for food, particularly Cracker Barrel and BBQ. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, nurturing plants and creating delicious canned goods that he proudly shared with loved ones. His laughter and warmth will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on through the memories he has left behind.

Funeral services to celebrate Oscar’s life will be conducted 12:00 PM Noon, April 7, 2025 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.  He will be laid to rest with his parents at Liberty Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 until 11:30 AM at the mortuary.
