Mick Stewart
Central, SC
Our beloved Milford Jenkins ‘Mick’ Stewart has passed away peacefully on Thursday May 30, 2024 at the age of 89. Born in Six Mile, South Carolina on February 5th 1935, he was a devoted husband to Thoma Sue Broom Stewart, and a son of the late Burley James and Gertrude Messer Stewart.
He dedicated his working life to the construction industry, specifically at F.O. Day Company in Rockville, Maryland as a heavy equipment operator and foreman. He is remembered for his skilled craftsmanship and unwavering work ethic, and some colorful early morning drives to work with his sons.
In his leisure time he found solace in the art of fishing, spending serene days on the water. He also had a passion for woodworking, finding joy in creating intricate pieces and turning wood he had foraged into works of art. It was in these moments of creation that Mick’s spirit shone brightest, leaving a legacy of creativity and dedication for all to witness. He loved to gift these pieces to his niece Cindy and would proudly display new pieces to everyone who came by to visit.
His beloved grandfather clock stands proudly in the living room, a constant reminder of the time, and of the mistaken engraving…. ‘Milfrod’ Stewart. A Pickens jockey lot regular, he loved haggling and finding hidden treasures to add to his collection. His family will miss his strong hugs, his smile, and his sense of humor. He was a man of few, usually gruff words. Carefully chosen for their audience- his words were always accompanied by a sly grin and a chuckle. Rubbing at that smile with his left hand, wrist clad in his gold watch… he was a creature of habit.
If you arrived at Mammaw and Pappaw’s on any given day in the last decade, he could be found tinkering. Whether it be with his (Ronald’s) tractor, his woodworking, or his crops… the man was always busy. Okra, tomatoes, green beans, and the best cucumbers you’ve ever had… he was an avid and talented gardener.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons. Mickey Stewart (Angel) of Charleston, Ronald Stewart (Tonyia) of Central, and Richie Stewart (Donna) of Central; a sister, Eloise Stewart Carver of Holcombe, MS; 6 grandchildren, Jessica Stokes, Dylan Stewart (Alyssa), Falcon Stewart, Trinity Stewart, Georgia May (Max), and Ella Stewart. Also surviving are four beloved great grandchildren, Lukas, Charlie Jane, Mazy, and Bryson.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by eight siblings, Opal Lee Broom, James Wilton Stewart, Lola Faye Lusk, James Marvin Stewart, Etta Mae Breazeale, John Lesley Stewart, infant sisters Shirley Jean Stewart and Priscilla Gayle Stewart.
Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. Stewart will be held 3:00 PM Monday, June 3rd at Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday from 1:00 until 2:00pm at the Liberty Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Patriot Hospice, 4741 SC-153, Suite B, Easley SC 29642. We want to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to caregivers Audra and Melissa.
May his memory live on in the laughter we shared, the moments we cherish, and the legacy he leaves behind. May his spirit forever guide us. Rest in peace, Milford Jenkins Stewart Sr.
