Funeral services to honor Larry’s life will be conducted 11:00AM Saturday, July 30, 2022, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Abbott Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the mortuary. Following the service on Saturday the family invites all in attendance to join them at Backwater Landing Lodge, 1230 Melton Road, West Union SC to celebrate Larry’s homegoing.
Larry Kenneth Wheeler, CMSgt USAF-retired, 72, of Greer, South Carolina, died Sunday, July 24, 2022. Born in Pickens, he was a son of the late Walter Reford and Janet Ruth Dacus Wheeler.
He was a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University where he received his bachelors and masters degree. He worked for over 50 years for Flour Daniel Corporation where he was a business manager.
Larry served his country in United States Air Force Reserves where he served 30 years retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant.
Surviving is his wife of 13 years, Leslee R. Wheeler of the home; two sons Matt Wheeler of San Antonio, TX, and Paul Wheeler (Layla) of Greenville; two stepdaughters, Melinda Rock (Brian) of Simpsonville, and Karen Kapustka (Luke) of Simpsonville; a step son, Jesse Simon (Sarah) of El Sugundo, CA; a sister, Judy Messer (Doug) of Liberty; also surviving are 11 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Allen, Jerry, Walter, and Steven Wheeler.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the Wounded Warrior Project, by visiting www.woundedwarriorproject.org in honor of Chief Master Sergeant Wheeler. Liberty Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Larry and I go back to the mid-late 1970’s working together for Daniel Construction Company, before the Fluor acquisition. Larry was always fun to be and work with. He always found humor in whatever we were engaged in.

Larry and I go back to pre-Flour days working together at Daniel Construction Company in 1967 at the Baytown TX Exxon Project. My good friend Larry was a Cost Control Engineer and I was a Site Purchasing Agent. I’ll never forget the fun times we had together at Galveston on the beach catching fresh crabs, cooking them on the beach and just enjoying each other’s company. We finished that Project and traveled to Norfolk NE on a 3M Project together enjoying a 1st time pheasant hunt. I could go on a long time with fun stories about this special friend.

He had a huge personality and sense of humor and was very social and very caring. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to see him and visit with him in January of this year(2022), during a reunion for our Air Force Reserve unit, the 43rd Aerial Port Squadron, in Austin, TX. Chief Wheeler was a huge positive force in our AF Reserve military unit and he loved coming together for our reunions, which were lots of fun and brought back many wonderful memories. Prayers for Larry and for his family and friends left behind here on earth, who mourn his passing, but find comfort in knowing he is now with Jesus in Heaven.
