James Steven “Jim” Whysong

James Steven “Jim” Whysong, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, at the age of 73. Born on June 25, 1950, in Niagara Falls, New York to the late George and Helen Gall Whysong, Jim brought joy and laughter to the lives of those who knew him. He resided in Norris, SC, with his loving wife of 47 fun filled years, Theresa Renee Callahan Whysong.
Jim served his country proudly as a Navy veteran during the Vietnam era and worked for Duke Energy for 25 years before retirement. Jim was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his profession.
Away from work, Jim found solace in his passions. He had an undeniable love for drag racing and could often be found at the racetrack in one of his many cars that he had built. Jim also had a knack for finding beauty in unexpected places, as he enjoyed exploring junk yards and discovering hidden treasures with his grandchildren.
Family was of great importance to Jim, and his pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He adored his son Terry Whysong(Stephanie) and daughter Angela Crawford(Ricky), cherishing every moment spent with them. Papa Jim had a special bond with his grandchildren and loved spoiling them with his famous tacos.
In addition to his loving wife and children he is survived by two sisters, Theresa Trainor and Margaret Ann Cole, both of Niagara Falls; a brother-in-law who raised him as his own, Vincent Bedore; a very special niece, Paula “Sis” Merlo; five grandchildren, Anna Whysong, Marina Latimer, Kiahnna Crawford, Johnathan Whysong and Allison Whysong; one great-grandchild, Lucas Latimer; and an honorary family member who was like a son to him, Leon Gantt.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Kidd and Mary Lou Bedore; and one very special nephew, Kenneth Bedore.
To honor and celebrate the life of Jim Whysong, a visitation will take place from 1:30 until 2:30 pm, Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Liberty Mortuary followed by a memorial service in the chapel at 3:00 pm. Friends, family, and all those whose lives were touched by Jim are welcome to attend and share their memories.
Jim touched the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His dedication, passion, and zest for life serve as a reminder to us all to embrace every cherished moment.
