Henry T. Hopkins, Jr. let go of the hands of his children and joined hands with Jesus on September 28, 2026.
Henry was born on November 22, 1948 to the late Henry Todd Hopkins, Sr. and Mary Caroline Rodgers Hopkins Terry.
Henry served his country in the United States Marine Corp and then worked at, and later owned, Textile Specialties, Inc. Under his leadership, what started as a Greenville, SC-based company eventually went on to provide custom and specialty solutions worldwide, while remaining a trusted resource and partner for longstanding organizations across the Southeast. Henry grew Textile Specialties through the value of handshakes, the promise of a word, and hands-on experiences.
Henry was deeply selfless and had the discipline, will, and love to create a life for his family that he had once only dreamed of. There are more kids than his own running around with beautiful smiles because he put them through braces. So much so that their family lived in their orthodontist’s condo one summer while their home was being built. There are more families than his own that had warm, safe places to live because he took on their mortgages. He taught his children to how to follow God closely, and how to trust in His Word. There are few Saturday mornings from their childhood that you couldn’t find Henry in his spot on the sofa reading his Bible with a cup of coffee. They won’t say he never nodded off: that spot on the leather sofa was permanently deep conditioned from his head resting there.
His legacy is one of unconditional love, providing for others, generosity, accountability, diligence, and faith, which profoundly shaped those around him. In the face of challenges and changes throughout his life, Henry persevered, all while staying the course as a steadfast and loving father. He encouraged his children to leave people better than they found them: anyone who crossed paths with Henry is the better for it.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his beloved brother Carroll. We can only imagine the reunion in heaven between those two Hopkins boys!
He is survived by his wife Roxann Hopkins; his four children: Lindsey Winegard (Ron), Todd Hopkins, Katherine Elrod (Brad), and Stephen Hopkins; two stepsons: Jason Beheler (Cat) and Keith Campbell, four grandchildren: RJ Winegard (Erica), Caroline McCall (Hunter), Vara Gordon, and Eden Elrod; two step-grandchildren: Parker Beheler and Denver Beheler; and two great-grandchildren: Colton Winegard and Hollis Winegard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels of Pickens County and Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas. Henry’s mom was a long-time driver for Meals on Wheels, and the Ronald McDonald House made a profound impact on Henry following the premature birth of his first grandchild.
The family would welcome the opportunity to visit with you and share sweet memories on Saturday, October 3, from 10am-12pm at the home of Katherine & Brad Elrod, 112 Players Drive, Easley, South Carolina. A private celebration is planned for a future date.
