Bobby Joe Ladd, a devoted husband, nurturing father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather and beloved member of the community, peacefully passed away on September 6, 2023, at the age of 85.
Bobby was born in his hometown on May 16, 1938, a son of the late Robert E. and Willie Mae Owens Ladd.
With a strong work ethic and a commitment to service, Bobby embarked on a fulfilling career as a custodian in the public schools, dedicating himself to ensuring a clean and safe environment for countless students. He served faithfully as an employee of the School District of Pickens County, where he worked at Liberty High School and later East End Elementary School, leaving a lasting impact on the students he came in contact with.
Outside of his professional life, Bobby’s true devotion could be found in his roles as a Scout Master, church member, and family man. He served as a guiding figure in Boy Scout Troop #172, leaving an indelible mark on numerous young lives. Additionally, his commitment to Calumet Baptist Church was unwavering, where he served as a Deacon, RA Leader, Youth Sunday School Teacher, and custodian for 53 years. He was also the oldest living member of his church. During his retirement he enjoyed his many trips to the beach, going out to eat with his family, or simply working in his cabinet shop tinkering on different projects.
In his personal life, Bobby was a loving family man. He leaves behind his dedicated wife, Ruth Ann Ladd; two children, Debbie Gantt (Tony) of Easley and Dean Ladd of Liberty. He also leaves behind two siblings, Louise Crowe and Ronnie Ladd (Brenda) all of Liberty, and a daughter in law, Robin Gassaway of Anderson.
Bobby’s legacy extends to his adored grandchildren, Ethan Ladd and Savannah Hancock (Kegan), two great grandchildren, Saylors Jo and Colt, who will forever treasure the love and guidance he shared with them. His kindness, humor, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of his family for generations to come.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen McCollum, Geraldine Minnich, Martha Gray, and Ruth Ann Bryant, and two brothers, Jimmy and Wade Ladd.
To honor and celebrate Bobby’s life, a funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 9, 2023 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the mortuary. Entombment will follow at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the home.
