Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Crowe will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 10, 2023, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at the mortuary.
Benjamin Harrison “B.H.” Crowe, Jr., 92, of Liberty, died peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2023 in his sleep at Richard Campbell Veteran’s Nursing Home in Anderson, SC.
Born in Liberty, he was the husband of Louise Ladd Crowe, and a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Crowe Sr. and Janie Patterson Crowe.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two daughters, Kay Mize (Jack) and Patti Gwinn (Larry) all of Liberty; three grandchildren, Geoff Mize (Tracy), Alicia Landreth (Patton), and Robert Gwinn; two great granddaughters, Zada and Jovy Landreth; a sister, Joyce Crowe; also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hudson Crowe, two infant sons, three sisters, Midge Thrasher, Bernice “Coute” Smith, and Lillian Stewart, and three brothers, Doyle, Horace, and Milton Crowe.
Mr. Crowe was a member of Calumet Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and on various committees.
He was a graduate of Clemson University and a loyal Tiger Fan. He was proud of being a member of the 1947 Liberty High School State Championship football team and making a hole-in-one at Bonnie Brae Golf Club in 2017 at the age of eighty-seven. His career in textile manufacturing included several years with Woodside Mills, Wamsutta, and Glenn Raven.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and spent his final months of life at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Richard M. Campbell Nursing Home, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson SC 29621, or Calumet Baptist Church, 400 S. Peachtree Street, Liberty SC 29657.
