With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barry Michael “Mike” Cartee, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and dedicated public servant, who entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2025, at the age of 74.

Born on June 9, 1951, in Anderson, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Clifton Cartee, Sr. and Vivian Wardlaw Cartee.

Mike spent his life dedicated to serving others, embodying the values of compassion, integrity, and strength.

He graduated with an associate’s degree in public service with a minor in Criminal Justice from Tri-County Technical College. His commitment to public safety was evident throughout his distinguished 26-year career with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, where he retired as a First Sergeant after serving the communities of Pickens and Saluda Counties. He continued his service as a Special Deputy with the United States Marshal’s Service, ultimately serving as District Supervisor for South Carolina for 16 years.

A proud veteran, he also served for 7 years in the U.S. Army Reserves, demonstrating his dedication to protecting and supporting his fellow citizens. He was deeply involved in his community, not only as a Deacon at Norris First Baptist Church but also as a dedicated member of Liberty Masonic Lodge #235 AFM for an impressive 38 years, where he once held the esteemed position of Master of the Lodge.

He cherished the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for classic cars, often spending weekends at car shows, proudly showcasing his collection. He found joy in traveling to Florida and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where he created countless wonderful memories with family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Dill Cartee; a daughter, Mary Ann Edens (Michael); grandchildren, Faris Williams (Mike) and Logan Edens; and great-grandchild, Wade Williams. His loving spirit, warm smile, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Cartee Lollis, a son, Ken Cartee, and three brothers, Clifton Cartee, Jr., Billy Cartee, and Jimmy Cartee.

A celebration of Mike’s remarkable life will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 4, 2025 at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley SC. Any current or retired law enforcement officers and masons are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers. Honors will be provided by the South Carolina Highway Patrol Honors Team. Private inurnment will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens with masonic rites.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 3, 2025, from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at the Liberty Mortuary, 30 S. Palmetto Street, Liberty, SC.

So sadden to hear of my friend Mike's passing. Mike and I were working together at the U.S. Marshal's Office the day of the 911 attack on the twin towers. We watched together as the events unfolded. The both of us being veterans knew what lies ahead. We expressed our prayers then and there. Mike and I shared many similarities in our careers and love of family. He made it so easy to work together, always with laughter, and fun. My wife Jan and I send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Donna and the family.

Great Christian man. Good friend. Treated all people with respect . Never saw him lose his temper. Although I have not seen him in awhile I know if I ever needed him he would be willing to help in any way. Prayers go to Donna and family. Love y'all. Gary and Connie

I am deeply saddened to hear of Mike's passing. He has always been a good example for others; pleasant and caring. He also mentored many Masons and was fun to talk with and interact with. Praying for Donna and family as well as his large circle of friends as he impacted so many lives throughout his life and career. Rest in Peace my friend... Bill Brothers

Donna and family, We are so sad to hear of Mike’s passing. He will be dearly missed by all of us at the car shows and cruise ins. He was always smiling and such a joy to us. So sorry to hear this Mike was a great officer and a great friend. You never met Mike when he didn’t have a smile on his face and a good handshake to give you ,he will definitely be missed .I pray for the family and his friends. I met Mike when I first worked at the sheriffs office. I retired after 25 years service I still stayed in contact with Mike. We would see each other stand talk laugh joke. Mike was an inspiration to all officers out there. He was a great guy and A stand-up officer, you could take what Mike said for it was the truth-you could put it in your checkbook and carry it to the to the bank as the old saying Is Mike will definitely be missed and for all the new officers out there that never got to meet Mike you Miss the chance to meet a officer that all officers should look up to and be. far he was an officer with true integrity.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Mike’s passing. I worked for 25 years in communications at the Greenville District Headquarters for the patrol. It was always a pleasure when Mike came to the Greenville office. He always stopped in and talked with the dispatchers. He was well thought of by everyone. He was an outstanding officer and gentleman. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences are extended to his family and friends.
