Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Smith will be 11:00 AM Friday at Calumet Baptist Church. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Liberty Mortuary.
Mary Louise Boggs Smith, 99, of 19 Nealy Street, widow of Melvin Stevenson Smith, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens. Born in Central, she was a daughter of the late Zachary Taylor and Sarah Chapman Boggs.
She was the oldest & longest tenure member of Calumet Baptist Church, where she was very active for numerous years. During her long life Mrs. Smith was very involved in community activities, having served as Worthy Matron of the Liberty Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also served as a poll worker with the Election Commission and as a participant and board member of the Senior Citizens of Liberty.
Surviving are 6 daughters, Barbara Hudson of Florence, Ellen Smith(Bill) of Easley, Nancy Gantt (Kenneth) of Liberty, Judy Lindsay(Roger) of Pickens, Leona Flinchum (Donald) of Asheboro, NC, and Lori Black (Tim) of Easley; 5 sons, Jim Smith(Susan) of Liberty, Larry Smith (Geri) of Lexington, Dean Smith of Greenville, Steve Smith (Sandra) of Anderson, and Neil Smith of Pickens; 33 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son in law, JC Hudson, a daughter in law, Beverly Smith, and three grandchildren, Cindy Addington, Warren Smith, and Shannon Lindsay, and she was also predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorials be made to Calumet Baptist Church, 400 S. Peachtree Street, Liberty SC 29657, or Liberty Senior Center, 105 S. Norman Street, Liberty SC 29657. The family will be at their respective homes.
