A memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Wood will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
Mary Ellen Childress Wood, 85, of 275 Winding Creek Road, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 15, 2015 at her residence. Born in the Hurricane Township which is now known as Six Mile, she was the widow of Guy William Wood and a daughter of the late Melvin Berry and Florence Annie Mae Cooper Childress. She was retired from Jacobs Chuck Mfg. and loved cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Guynelle Randle(Richard) and Janice Knight both of Norris and Margaret Wood of the home; 2 sons, Scott Wood of Huntersville, NC and Jon Wood(Amanda) of Easley; son in law, Ray Fisher of Pickens; a brother, Tommy Dwight Childress of Pickens; 8 grandchildren and 1 more on the way; and numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Fisher; a sister, Bonnie Sue Aiken; and 2 brothers, Alton “Dude” Childress and James Harold “Red” Childress.
