Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Stansell will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday at Liberty First Baptist Church. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 until 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
Major Jackson “M.J.” Stansell, Jr. 76, of 118 Alta Vista Court, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Born in Westminster, he was the widower of the late Martha Nalley Stansell and a son of the late Major Jackson and Fannie Taylor Stansell, Sr. He earned a BA degree from Piedmont College where he played baseball. He had also been a teacher and coach at Liberty High School. Later he retired from Dow Chemical Company. He was an avid fisherman and bird hunter and loved Clemson athletics and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of Liberty First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay LeRoy(Sam) of Greenwood; two sons, Mike Stansell of Charleston and Brett Stansell(Angela) of Easley; a sister, Lorene Glymph of Westminster; two brothers, George Truett Stansell(Edna) of Westminster, and Furman Stansell(Mary) of Cumming, GA; and seven grandchildren, Elyse LeRoy South(Mac), Philip and Abbey LeRoy, and Camryn, Emily, Connor and Riley Stansell.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Audrey Smith and Helen Cody; and a brother Jack Stansell.
