Luther Lee Hendricks, Jr.

Luther Lee Hendricks, Jr. was born on June 19, 1928 and passed away on March 6, 2021 at the age of 92. He is survived by his sister Meda Dobson of Sacramento, CA, his stepdaughter Nancy Musson, her husband Craig Musson of Bradenton Florida, their children, William, Austin and Emily Musson, his grandson James (Jamie) Ryer of St. Petersburg, FL, three great-grandchildren, Christopher Lynne, Amanda Lynne, and Abigail Vingris and one great great grandchild, Jenna Smith

Luther was also predeceased by his former spouses, Italia (Del) DelGrosso Singarella and Lorraine Caffrey, his daughter Sherrie Lee Hendricks-Bourgoin, his granddaughter, Marmalee Lynne, grandson Shawn Ryer, and great-grandson Joshua Lynne.

Luther led a life filled with much happiness and many years of joy in the service of others. It was once written that upon our tombstone will be inscribed the date we were born and the date we died. In between those two dates often appears a dash and it is the dash that represents the years we lived in-between our birth and death. It is how we lived those years that is the most important of all and Luther lived those years exceptionally, loved by many, as he loved many.

As a teenager, following the passing of his mother, Mamie Elizabeth Galloway, he and his sisters were placed by their father Luther Lee Hendricks, Sr., in the care of the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Greenwood, South Carolina. It could be assumed this would be a trying and sad time for a young child, but Luther often spoke fondly of his childhood and was a light and example to the children who resided there for many years.

Luther enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably following World War II. He was a devoted father and grandparent and will be missed dearly but his family takes joy knowing on March 6, 2021, heaven gained another angel, and we will all reunite one day.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, May 22, 2021 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.  Burial will be at a later date at Westview Cemetery in Liberty. For more information please contact his grandson Jamie Ryer at jamieryer@me.com.
