John William Callaham, Jr., 83, lifelong resident of Liberty died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital from a massive heart attack.
Born in Liberty he was a son of the late John William, Sr. and Grace Wofford Callaham. He was raised in Liberty and attended Liberty schools. He was a 1952 graduate of Presbyterian College, where he was still an avid supporter and active member of the Scotsman Club.
John was a continuous supporter of his alma mater and loved his return trips to Presbyterian College. He was an active volunteer at Liberty High School and could be found having lunch there often. He was active supporter of Southern Wesleyan University and served on the Board of Visitors.
Mr. Callaham served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was a lifetime member of the Frank D. Callaham American Legion Post # 67. He served as Mayor of Liberty for several years.
He was a member of the Liberty Chamber of Commerce, the Liberty Lions Club, and the Liberty/Pickens Lions Club.
Throughout his career he owned and operated several businesses including, Callaham Insurance, Callaham Motors, & Callaham Real Estate. He was a founding member of John Foster Ford in Easley.
John was a devoted Christian man; he was a lifelong and the oldest member of Liberty Presbyterian Church. He loved to visit and be involved with all churches around the Liberty area. He could be seen walking around town daily and loved to visit and chat with his many friends.
Surviving are a niece, Linda Seiffert of Oceanside, NY; two nephews, Bill Seiffert of Fair Oak, CA, and Bob Seiffert of Oceanside, NY.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Callaham Seiffert.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, February 17, 2012 at Liberty Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Hicks officiating. Burial will be at the Callaham Family Plot at Westview Cemetery in Liberty.
His body will lie in state on Wednesday and Thursday at the Liberty Mortuary where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Main Street, Liberty SC 29657.
