Mr. Jack Edward Ravan, Sr. passed away following a long illness in Mobile, Alabama on September 3, 2014. He was 77 years old.
Mr. Ravan was born, June 18, 1937, and raised in Pickens County, South Carolina. He was a son of the late James William and Lillian Mae Holder Ravan. He attended Liberty High School and graduated in 1955, lettering in Football and Wrestling. He went on to the United States Military Academy, West Point, and graduated with the class of 1959. He was an Army Ranger with the 81st Airborne. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and was awarded two Bronze Stars with valor. He remained with the US Army Reserves at the rank of Major once he left active duty until 1975. Mr. Ravan had a long career with the Federal Government. He served in the Senior Executive Service while at the United States Environmental Protection Agency. While with the E.P.A., he was the Region Administrator, Southeastern Region IV and the federal Assistant Administrator for Water Quality. He later served as the Director of the Alabama State Docks. Upon retirement, he settled in Mobile, AL.
Mr. Ravan is survived by three adult children, his first wife, one brother and many loving sisters. The family is grateful to Mr. Bill Luc, Mr. Greg Carwie, and the exemplary staff at Ashbury Manor and Ashland Place.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M., September 12, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pickens, S.C. He will be interred following the Mass at Westview Cemetery.
