Gerald Richard “Boozy” James

Mr. Gerald Richard James (Boozy), 78, went to be with his Lord on February 17, 2015.

He was a loving and devoted husband to Roberta Bowman James for 53 years. They have four children, Richard Arling James (Jody Pinion), Jerri James Durham, Sherri James Collins (Darrell), and Kristi James Cooley (Rocky). He was the proud “Papa” of five grandchildren: Ethan, Emily, and Evan James , Hailey Collins, and Meagan Fogarty.

He was preceded in his passing by his father and mother, Richard Ansel and Grace Stokes James; as well as his sister, Juanita James Barnes.

Born in Liberty, SC on February 13, 1937, he remained a Liberty resident his entire life. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1956, and attended Clemson University. The quintessential family patriarch, he was a supervisor at American Enka, and retired with BASF.

A member of Eastside Baptist Church for his entire 78 years, he was an active member of the Covenant Sunday School class. He enjoyed singing in the choir, and visiting others in their time of sickness. He was an accomplished gardener. He, also, enjoyed camping and traveling with his family.

The family will receive friends at Liberty Mortuary on Thursday, February 19, from 5:30 until 7:30. Funeral services to honor his life will be at Eastside Baptist Church in Liberty, SC, on Friday, February 20 at 2:00 pm. Graveside services will follow at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
