Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Bryant will be 3:00 PM Sunday at Calumet Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Liberty Mortuary.
Eugene Edward “Gene” Bryant, 85, of 212 Odell Street, died Thursday, April 21, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Liberty he was a son of the late Ernest and Theatta Bates Bryant.
He was a 1947 graduate of Liberty High School, and was retired from BASF.
Mr. Bryant was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II, where he served in the South Pacific on the George E. Davis Destroyer Escort during the Battle of the Leyte Gulf. He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan, and throughout his life he loved camping and golf.
Mr. & Mrs. Bryant were longtime members of Calumet Baptist Church where he was a member of the Pace Bible Class.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Nathalee Dodgens Bryant of the home; a daughter, Gail Bryant Ponder of Liberty; a son, Tim Bryant of Myrtle Beach; four sisters and three brothers in law, Helen Mahaffey of Liberty, Betty and Wayne Davis of Clemson, Shirley and Jordan Duncan of Easley, and Carol and Wallace Clardy of Liberty; four grandchildren, Kristi Baker and her husband Chris of Liberty, Brent Whitaker of Myrtle Beach, Kylie Deppen and her husband Jason of New York, NY, and Josh Ponder and his wife Kelly of Dacusville; one beloved and very special great grandson, Tyler Baker.
The family will be at the home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials are requested to Calumet Baptist Church Building Fund, 400 S. Peachtree Street, Liberty SC 29657.
