Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Murphree will be conducted 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Mountain View Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church.
Esther Ellenburg Murphree, of Pickens, wife of the late Clyde Murphree went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3, 2015. Born in Pickens she was a daughter of the late John and Ida Crenshaw Ellenburg.
Mrs. Murphree was an exceptional seamstress, cook, and gardener. She used her gifts of hospitality and care giving to touch many lives in her family, her neighborhood, and her church community.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Murphree of Pickens, and Debbie Hawkins (Jim) of Aiken; three grandchildren, Jennifer Casto (Carson) of Lexington, Juliette Hawkins of South Africa, and Tim Hawkins of Atlanta; two great grandchildren, Patton and Carter Casto.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by four sisters, Lyda Underwood, Grace Galbreath, Janie Redmond, and Ovie Ivester, and six brothers, Bowen, B.P., Johnny, Cote, Doyle, and Leon Ellenburg.
She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
