Funeral services to honor Mema’s life will be conducted 3:00 PM Saturday, May 12, 2018 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:45 PM at the mortuary.

Estelle Jones “Mema” Smith, 93, of Liberty, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Born in Spartanburg she was the widow of E. Melvin Smith, and a daughter of the late Joseph and Carrie Lee Ruppe Jones.

Mrs. Smith retired from Sangamo with 30 years of service and was an avid flower gardener. She was a longtime member of East Side Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Ruth Bible Class and was a Sunday School Teacher for numerous years.

Surviving are two daughters, Hazel Bowen (Charles), and Evelyn Smith all of Liberty; a son, Charles M. Smith (Janette) of Easley; four sisters, Christine Smith, Irene Dodgens, and June Galloway all of Liberty, and Viola Tate of Taylors; three brothers, Chris and Raymond Jones both of Liberty, and Boyce Jones of Pickens; two granddaughters, Heather Massingale and Jennifer Wojtalik (Zach); three great grandchildren, Garrett Massingale, Reese and Wyatt Wojtalik.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Jones.
