Dr. Charles Henry Busha, Phd, 92, of Anderson, formerly of Greenville and Liberty, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born in Liberty he was a son of the late James and Rosa Anderson Busha. He was a 1950 graduate of Liberty High School, he attended Furman University, earning his BA there. He was awarded a graduate scholarship to study at Rutgers University from which he received his masters degree. Later, at Indianna University he completed his three year doctoral fellowship and earned his PhD.
He was an artillery officer during the Korean War and later served 13 years in the South Carolina National Guard, attaining the rank of Captain.
He worked with the Greenville County Library, SC State Library, he also taught graduate level classes at Indianna University, University of South Florida, and Tri County Technical College. He has written and edited a number of books that were used by more than 50 universities in the US.
Dr. Busha is past president and member of the Pickens County Historical Society, President of the Liberty Arts Council, and Friends of the Sarlin Community Library.
After retiring he enjoyed nature, hiking, and creating beautiful art for his family to enjoy after his passing.
Those left to cherish his memory are Lynn Stewart Palmer, Charlotte Stewart Lowe, Mike Chandler, Mark Chandler, Kim Chandler Brown, Melissa McAlister Whitman, along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three sisters, Helen Busha McAlister Racine, JoAnn Busha Chandler, and Peggy Busha Stewart.
Graveside services to honor Dr. Busha’s life will be conducted 3:00 PM Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Liberty Memorial Gardens. No visitation is planned.
