Bonnie Curtis of Rotterdam Rd. Liberty passed away at her home on Saturday October 11, 2014. The daughter of Earnest and Clara Lee, Bonnie is survived by her sisters, Geneva, Doris, Cathy and Dianne and a brother Walter Lee. Also surviving are her husband of 62 years, Charles Curtis, her five daughters, Debra Gilstrap of Easley , Genell Cortright, of Greenville, Gayle Esancy of Pickens, Teresa “Charlene” McCall of Liberty and Rebecca Farmer of Travelers Rest. Bonnie was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grand-children.
Having devoted herself to home and family, Bonnie considered her greatest accomplishments to be raising her 5 daughters and being a wonderful grandmother to all of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of her greatest joys included spending time with her grandchildren, going for long rides in the mountains with her family, and watching birds out her kitchen window. Known to her grandchildren as “Granny”, she always had a dollar, a treat or a surprise to give them in exchange for a big hug. Her family always looked forward to eating her delicious homemade biscuits, fried chicken and banana pudding.
Bonnie was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church for over 40 years. Her faith was unwavering and in her last hours she was comforted by God's promises, the prayers of her pastor and family and the comfort of knowing that Heaven was ready to welcome her home.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Tuesday October 14 at The Liberty Mortuary. Funeral services will be Wednesday October 15 at 11:00 am, at Roanoke Baptist Church, 400 Roanoke Rd. Liberty SC. Her grandsons, Mark Esancy and Bryan Cole, Pastor Jack Shook and the Rev. Gary Gwinn will be sharing the message of hope. Burial will be at Roanoke Baptist Church.
