Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Layman will be held Friday at 11:00 AM in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Liberty Mortuary. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
Billy Allen Layman, Sr., 75, of 620 Hunter Mill Road, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Owensboro, KY, he was the widower of Jewell Kelley Layman and a son of the late Emmitt and Lillian Layman. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he worked for Greenville County and retired as the superintendant of the Roads and Bridges Dept. He enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, helping with Meals on Wheels, going to the Seniors Unlimited in both Liberty and Pickens and dancing at Cotton Eye Joe’s. He was also a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra Brooks(Mark) of Liberty; a son, Billy Allen Layman, Jr. of Liberty; 2 sisters, Mildred Layman Hicks(Roy) of Owensboro, KY and Margaret “Sugar” Layman Gayesky of Texas; a brother, Delbert Willis Layman of Owensboro, KY; 4 grandsons, Kyle Layman(Chelsea), Nick Layman(Jill), Benjamin Brooks(Nancy) and Zachary Brooks(Ashton); and a great grandson, Colt Brooks; several beloved nieces and nephews, but especially, Billy Bollinger(Marna), Connie Winkler(Paul) and Roy McKay Hicks(Marie).
In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Scott Layman; 2 sisters, Louise Layman Wells and Pauline Layman Ambs; a brother, J.W. Layman; and a grandson, Jonathon Levi Brooks.
The family will be at their respective homes.
