Funeral services for Mr. Gillespie will be held at 2:00 PM Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
Benjamin Harold Gillespie, Sr., 85, of 130 Norris Avenue, died Friday at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Liberty, he was the husband of Emily Lee Gillespie and a son of the late Jairt and Lila Dobson Gillespie. He served his country during WWII and the Korean War in the U.S. Navy and later retired in 1966. Later he worked as a supervisor with the department of SC Meat Inspection. He was an avid sports fan and loved Clemson football. He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Beverly Gillespie of Liberty; a son, Ben Gillespie, Jr.(Jeanne) of Easley; a granddaughter, Amanda Baker of Savannah, GA; and 3 great granddaughters, Olivia, Madison and Kathryn.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Keri Gillespie.
