Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Myers will be conducted, 11:00 AM Saturday, September 9, 2017 at East Side Baptist Church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Liberty Mortuary.

Richard Edgar Myers, 66, of 22 Boggs Drive, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville he was the widower of Carol S. Myers and a son of the late Thurlo and Florence Chapman Myers.

He loved playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Allison Smith and her husband Tim of Liberty; a son, Derrick Myers of Liberty; a sister, Mary Margaret Phillips of Pickens; three grandchildren, Reece and Noah Smith, and Preston Myers.

In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the Shriners Hospital For Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville SC 29605.

Mr. Myers was a patient of mine during a very trying time in his life. He went through this time with a great faith that the Lord would get him through this. He was very courageous through the treatments and was also extremely encouraging to other patients. I knew from the way he acted and spoke that he loved his family and friends and that he was a gentleman of the greatest caliber. He was loved by all the staff who took care of him and we all said many prayers for him during his treatments. He will be missed by all who knew him, for he was a person you were proud to call a friend.

My first job (other than at my Dad's Sore) was at World Finance, so Richard was my first boss. Even after I left we remained friends, and even neighbors. So we saw each other fairly frequently and there is a part of my heart missing. I did not hear about Richard's passing until the funeral was over. Sorry I couldn't be there in person.
