Martha E. Hendrix Tompkins

It is with a mix of sadness and celebration that we announce the passing of our beloved Martha E. Hendrix Tompkins, who left this world peacefully on December 6, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on June 10, 1931, in Easley, SC, she was a daughter of the late Walker and Margaret Reece Galloway. Martha worked as a talented seamstress for many years before retirement from Sir Shirtmakers.
Martha’s life was a tapestry woven with love, faith, and family. She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Jean Pate (Danny), Cathy Vinson (Doug), and Wanda Hayter (Mark), and a loving sister to Larry and Murrell Galloway. Her heart swelled with joy for her grandchildren which include, Mark J. Hayter (Tara), Whitney Woods (Tim), Jennifer Martin (Matt) and great-grandchildren, Landon and Connor Hayter, Remi and Olivia Woods, Emmy and Harper Martin, whom she delighted in spoiling and showering with love. Martha was known far and wide for her incredible cooking, especially her famous fried apple pies that became a cherished tradition during the Christmas season.
Martha holds a special place in the hearts of her church family at Golden Grove Wesleyan Church, where her faith and love for the Lord guided her life. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially to families in need of a babysitter. Her laughter, kindness, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents and her she was predeceased by her first husband Elford Eugene Hendrix; her second husband George Tompkins; four sisters, Kathleen Stephens, Lorine Bullard, Eunice Noblitt and Geraldine Galloway; four brothers, Marion Galloway, Alvin Galloway, Broadus Galloway Charles Galloway; and an infant brother who passed at birth.
A funeral service for Mrs. Tompkins will be held on Wednesday December 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Following the service, Martha will be laid to rest Westview Cemetery in Liberty. No visitation is planned.
