Carolyn Taylor
Easley, SC
Carolyn Rakes Taylor, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, left this world peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on March 31, 1940, in Burnwell, West Virginia, she was the widow of Rev. William Herbert Taylor, Jr., and a daughter of the late Ed and Ethel Giles Rakes.
She created a loving and nurturing home for her family and all those who crossed her path.
A dedicated minister’s wife, Carolyn poured her heart into the Glenwood Wesleyan Church community, embodying the spirit of kindness and service. She was known for her warmth and compassion, which she extended beyond her family to the many children who attended the daycare she operated from her home. Affectionately called “Mommy Taylor,” she touched the lives of countless little ones during those formative years, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Carolyn’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Bethany Hooper (Rickey); her devoted son, Jeff Taylor (Mary); and her cherished grandchildren, Megan Mantooth (Zach), Benjamin Taylor (Alyson), Zach Hooper (Paige), Braden Hooper, and Kinley Simpson (Wyatt). Each of them carries her love, teachings, and cherished memories. Also surviving is her sister, Phyllis Sutherland, and six great grandchildren, Parker, Annabelle, Ava, Olivia, Will, and Sadie.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Darren Taylor, and a sister, Rosalee Messer.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at her funeral service, 12:00 PM Noon on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in a private service at Mt. Olivet Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 until 11:30 am at the mortuary.
As we remember Carolyn, let us carry forward her legacy of love, service, and compassion, nurturing the relationships that defined her life. She will be deeply missed but warmly remembered in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
