Marion Stewart
Liberty, SC
Marion Stewart passed away on October 20, 2023 at the age of 76.
Born on October 13, 1947 to Woodrow and Tishie Norton Stewart in Pickens, SC he was known for his love and devotion as a husband, father and grandfather. His commitment to serve others as a staple in his community of Liberty will be forever remembered. Marion was compassionate, helpful, genuine and fierce. He was a man of his word and supporter of so many.
Marion is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carol Hughes Stewart, his only daughter, Tia Swafford and her husband Brian, and his only grandchild, Reagan Lucy Swafford; also surviving is his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lucille Clark Hughes.
He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and served his country in the United States Army. He worked at Winn-Dixie and later retired from Bi-Lo where he worked many years.
In addition to to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Cecil Stewart and David Stewart, and his father-in-law, James Hughes.
Family meant everything to Marion and his friends were extended family to him. He relentlessly spent hours at softball fields, basketball and volleyball courts cheering on his best girls, Tia and Reagan. He was their hero and an umpire or referee’s arch rival. He was a talented craftsman and found great joy in woodworking and enjoyed making things for others. He loved big and spoke soft. His eyes were truly windows to his kind and warm soul. Serving others, alongside his wife, was his favorite pastime. He will be missed by so many, but the family and friends who knew him best, know he’s watching from the greatest seat of all, beside his Lord and Savior.
The family is grateful for the outpouring love and support during this heartbreaking time. They wish to extend a special thank you to the ICU team and the staff on the 8th floor at St. Francis downtown, Greenville, SC for compassionately caring for Marion in his final days.
To honor Marion’s life and celebrate his homecoming, funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 25, 2023 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the mortuary.
