It is with heavy hearts but also with a sense of celebration of a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Leonard Wayne Posey, who departed this world peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on May 3, 1945, in Pickens, SC, Leonard was a life-long resident of Liberty and a true son of the South, who cherished the simple joys of life. He was a son of the late William Ernest and Louise Perkins Posey.
Leonard spent his later days working diligently mowing for the South Carolina Department of Public Transportation. Earlier in his career he worked in the textile industry where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. But it was on his porch, watching the world go by and listening to the sounds of nature, where he truly found peace. He loved spending time with his family, sharing laughter, stories, and creating memories that will last forever.
Leonard is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Edith Brewer Posey, and his two loving sons, Jimmy Posey (Janice) and Ricky Posey (Jodie). He will also be missed deeply by his brother, Steve Posey, his sister, Evelyn Ramey and his two grandchildren, Abaigeal Posey and Brandy Karr. His warm spirit and kind heart touched so many lives, and he will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Justin Posey; a sister, Shirley Carver; and a brother, Lewis Posey.
Join us for a Celebration of Leonard’s Life at the Liberty Mortuary where a visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. After the service, Leonard will be laid to rest near his parents at Westview Cemetery in Liberty.
As we remember Leonard, let us all honor his love for family and the beauty of life’s simple pleasures. He will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered.
