Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Burns will be 2:00 PM Thursday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Martha Eloise Tompkins Burns, 76, of 179 Burns Hill Road, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at her residence. Born in Six Mile she was the widow of Charles Austin Burns, Sr. and a daughter of the late Charles Melvin and Bessie Nicholson Tompkins.
She retired from Swirl and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.
Mrs. Burns loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she was also very active with the Liberty Seniors Unlimited until it closed.
Surviving are four sons, Melvin Burns (Melissa), Sammy Burns, Phil Burns (Rita), and Mark Burns all of Liberty; a sister, Margaret Belt of Charlotte; three brothers, James Tompkins, Clarence “Shorty” Tompkins, and John Tompkins all of Easley; six grandchildren, Amanda Wood, Austin Burns, II, Ryan N. Burns, Blake Burns, Casey Burns, and Carly Burns; five great grandchildren, Davis Crowder, Connors Wood, Alexis Burns, Anna Grace Burns, and Gabriel Burns.
The family will be at the home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials are requested to Providence Care Hospice, 202 Wall Street, Piedmont, SC 29673.
