Christine Self McClaren, 82, of Central, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Sevierville, TN she was a daughter of the late Perry and Grace Sorrell Self.

Mrs. McClaren was a graduate of Central Wesleyan College and spent her career as a English teacher for over 40 years in public and private schools.

She was an avid quilter, who loved collecting fenton glass and gardening. But most of all she was an amazing person who loved to make people happy.

Surviving are her husband Billy Joe McClaren of the home; a daughter, Cheris Logemann (Mike) of Chesapeake, VA; two sons, Derric McClaren of Hampton, VA and James McClaren (Larrisa) of Norfolk, VA; a sister, Verba Hawkins (John) of Candler, NC; four grandchildren, Ashley Linton (John), Taylor Logemann, Matthew McClaren, and Morgan McClaren.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Sister McClaren Was my teacher in the 90’s at Azalea Garden Christian School. She was a lot of fun to be around and was also very kind. I think about her often. She will be greatly missed.

Sister McClaren was my ice queen at Azalea Garden. She wouldn't let me get away with anything and always knew how to push me to do better. I would not have graduated If it wasn't for her tenacity and love. You will be missed Sis McClaren.

She was my absolute favorite teacher. Her heart was like gold. I will never forget the impact she made in my life. She is gone but not forgotten. I love you Sister McClaren

Sister McClaren was my teacher at Azalea Garden Christian School in the late 80s/early 90s. She was always such a kind and caring teacher. I have many fond memories of her. Deepest condolences go out to her family.

Chris was one of the most giving and loving individuals I have ever had as a loving friend.We spent a tremendous amount of time together ,I witnessed her give complete strangers groceries,money,even raffle off a handmade quilt she made to help a young lady she didn't even know to help her get a dialysis machine for home.Her heart was so big.I will miss her so much,but she will be forever in my heart.
