Funeral services to honor the life of Rev. Willie Honea will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday at Calumet Baptist Church, by Rev. Zack Shaw, Rev. Bobby Lindsey, Rev. Jeff Harris, and Rev. John McKnight. Burial will at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Liberty Mortuary.
Reverend Willie Adolphus Honea, 86, of 100 Sunset Drive, a widely respected preacher, minister, and pastor, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Westminster he was a son of the late Rev. Johnny Honea and Bessie Bell Lee Honea. He was a graduate of Anderson University, and later attended Furman University and Erskine College. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army.
Rev. Honea was Pastor Emeritus of Calumet Baptist Church in Liberty where he served for 25 years, and pastored for over 55 years in the upstate of South Carolina serving at the following churches, Corinth Baptist Church (Westminster), New Hope Baptist Church (Seneca), and Six & Twenty Baptist Church (Pendleton). He was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church in Easley.
He was well known for his loving heart, his compassion for people, and ministering to people in their time of need. He was a devoted servant of his Lord Jesus Christ and his church.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 65 years who stood by his side during his ministry, Betty S. Honea of the home; his loving daughter, Beverly Watson and her husband Mike of Liberty; 3 grandchildren, Heather W. Reeves (Dustin), Justin and Brandon Watson; a great granddaughter, Emma Grace Reeves; two sisters, Guynelle Holiday of Westminster, and Rachel Tench of Seneca.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Bradley Eugene Honea, two sisters, Cornice Williams and Juanita Spivey, and five brothers, Edward, Currell, Troy, Douglas, and Johnny Honea.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the church of one’s choice.
The family will be at the home. Liberty Mortuary is handling arrangements.
