Funeral services for Wayne “Gaton” Whitaker will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Liberty Mortuary. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Billy Wayne Whitaker, 70, of 304 Spring Valley Road died Saturday, January 13, 2018 at his residence. Born in Greenville, he was the husband of Linda Finley Whitaker of the home and a son of the late Jess Whitaker and the late Ray and Stella Holden Ross. He worked as a painter for most of his career and also enjoyed working on lawn mowers and doing yard work. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sheryl Shepard(David) of Liberty; a son, John Wayne Whitaker of Charleston; a sister, Margaret Whitaker of Liberty; 5 grandchildren, Kendra, Hope, Brandon, Danielle and Davie and 5 great grandchildren, Haylee, Mya, Kayleigh, Katelyn and Kaden.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Ray Whitaker; 2 brothers, Wallace “Yank” Whitaker and Johnny “Slick” Whitaker; a step brother, Steve Ross and a grandson, Malachi Whitaker.
