With loving hearts, we celebrate the life of Maria Emma Lucero Smith, a vibrant soul who filled every moment with joy and laughter. Born on November 8, 1948, in the charming town of Anton Chico, NM, she was the widow to Roy Dwight Smith and a daughter to the late Ernesto E. and Maria Anna Morales Lucero. Maria graced our lives until her passing on June 18, 2026, in Liberty, SC.

Maria lived a life rich in love and creativity. As a data entry specialist at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO, she made a lasting impact while showcasing her impeccable attention to detail. But beyond her career, her true passions flourished in her home and heart. An enthusiastic gardener, Maria found happiness nurturing both vegetable and flower gardens. Her love for nature brought color and vibrancy to her life and those of her family and friends.

Attending the Liberty Senior Center was a highlight for Maria, where she cherished the friendships and community there. A talented seamstress, she crafted beautiful pieces, including her daughter Victoria’s wedding gown-a testament to her love and skill. Travel was another joy for Maria, and she embraced every opportunity to explore new places whenever her health allowed.

Maria is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Angie Smith and Victoria Maloney (Kevin); sons, Dwayne Smith (Nancy) and Bill Smith (Terri); sisters, Mardie Bechthold, Irene Greenway, and Margaret Baca; and brother, Michael Lucero; and most importantly her six grandchildren, Hannah Novalsky-Smith (Dawn), Sydney Galloway (David), Emily Maloney, Allison Guzman (Kevin), Brandon Smith, Jacob Smith; and three great grandchildren, Livia, Leila and Emerson Galloway. Each family member carries a piece of her legacy in their hearts.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a brother Ernie Lucero.

In honor of Maria’s vibrant spirit, we invite you to join us for her funeral service at Liberty Mortuary on June 29, 2026, at 4:00 PM, following a visitation beginning at 3:00 PM. A reception will be held following the service at the home of her daughter, Victoria.
